Huntsville Generator

How it Works

Hooking a portable generator into a home requires a home transfer switch. These economical switches feature a safety interlock which prevents dangerous backfeeding.

When hooking a generator into a home for emergency power, the connection to the public utility must be disconnected. If not, power from the generator will feed into the home, and then out to the street. A street transformer then increases the voltage to very high levels. Power company personnel expect the lines to be dead, but in fact they are energized. The high voltage can kill utility workers attempting to restore power.
